The rental floors and dishes were not clean upon arrival. After an initial "Sorry for the inconvenience." Ethan has failed to reply to my email inquiries. This seems consistent with the few other review posted. It seems the claims of poor management are accurate. As a result, I will not be returning to Quaint Cottages.
Quiet hours began at 11pm and when Ethan came up to the house it was 10:30pm. We packed our things and we then left the house by 12:15am. It was a very unfortunate situation that could have been and should have been handled in a MUCH more professional manner. Our vacation was cut short by 4 days and over $4,000 that we all worked extremely hard for was put to waste with absolutely no refund, which is truly very unfair.
I was able to get the help and assistance needed in both making the reservation and following through once the reservation was made. Beautiful area, beautiful cottage, will definitely return.
We had been renting the Beach House at Lake Goshorn for about 5 years straight, but our last experience with Ethan and Quaint Cottages has really stuck in our craw. They held on to our $100 security deposit claiming that because some of our party were there about 30 minutes past the 11 am checkout deadline they had people standing around waiting to clean, and that there were some dirty dishes in the sink. First off, although we did have some people there until 11:30, there were NO cleaning personnel there until about 11:25, at which point they just walked in and started cleaning. Also, the dishes in the sink were clean - there wasn't a good place to put them. Given the $4500 weekly rental cost plus the $250 cleaning fee, you'd think there would be more consideration to long-time customers. We're annoyed enough that we probably won't be going back, despite the fact that we really do like the house and the location.
Since Quaint Cottages decided to delete ALL their Google reviews, I will post my review again that was unnecessarily taken down because I'm guessing Ethan Barde, property manager, did not like to see what his customers had to say about him and his unprofessional, discourteous service:
There were about 4 people sitting around the fire pit in the backyard when a man, without introducing himself, very rudely demanded to know how many people were currently at the house. We told him that there were 13 people and he told us that it was not okay for more than 8 to stay the night. With no proof that all 13 people were staying the night, he proceeded to walk into the house and open the house contract. This man was the property manager and his name was Ethan. We explained to Ethan that nowhere in the contract did it state that no more than 8 guests could be at the house at one time. We also reminded him that when we called to book this house we said we have 8 guests who will be spending the night and that we have people coming and going different days during the daytime and he told us that was okay. He pointed out the air mattress that was set up in the living room and told us that having that was not okay whatsoever. The house came supplied with 4 air mattresses, therefore that should not have caused a problem.
It is a shame what my family and I had to go through and it is a shame we could not enjoy our only vacation together to end the summer. I will not book through Quaint Cottages again due to their unprofessionalism and lack of compassion. If I could give this review zero stars I would.
Ethan then walked outside and called the police and they shortly arrived to the house. Every person who was at the house was of age and very respectable when they came in to talk with us. We explained to them our situation and after talking with us they spoke with Ethan and we were then told we had to vacate all of our things from the house that same night. All of us had been drinking, yet we were not even given until the morning to vacate ourselves nor our things. The officers said that they tried to reason with Ethan but because he is the property manager it was his call.
Awful management, made for an awful experience. Property manager Ethan Barde, is an unreasonable, unprofessional individual that cut our family vacation short, claiming the we "breached" our contract on day 2 of our 7 day stay. He refuses to reimburse us for the missed time and is also not returning our security deposit, though the place was spotless upon departure. He seems to be getting away with it in the small town of Saugatuck, but he's going to face a legal suit if the money is not returned. Multiple resources said that he's notorious for foul play, and disrespecting renters. There were a handful of other negative reviews, which were conveniently taken down over the past 2 weeks.
Very upset with this business and the management that my family and I dealt with this week. We rented a house through Quaint Cottages from July 22nd-28th and we unfortunately were asked to leave last night, Monday the 24th, at 10:30pm.
Don't rent from Quaint Cottages and Ethan Barde. More negative reviews/situations are sure to come.
